Mammography is a special type of x-ray imaging used to create detailed images of breast. Mammography uses low dose x-ray; high contrast, high-resolution and an x-ray system designed specifically for imaging the breast. Mammography plays an important role in early detection of breast cancers.

This test can find 85-90% of breast cancers in women and discover a lump up to two years before it can be felt. Once a lump is found the mammography can be a key factor in determining if the lump is cancerous. Georgetown Community Hospital is very proud to announce the addition of the latest advance in the fight against breast cancer: digital mammography.

Digital mammography provides superior imagery for a more accurate diagnosis. Other benefits include:

  • 28% higher detection rate
  • Improved image flexibility
  • More accurate diagnosis
  • Better visibility at the skin line
  • Shorter exam times
  • Less radiation exposure
