Medical Weight Loss
If you are interested in Medical Weight Loss, please call our office at 502-570-3727 and we will be happy to talk to you about scheduling an appointment with our clinical providers.
Revision Surgery
If you have had previous weight loss surgery and are interested in getting a revisional procedure, or just want to have follow up care with our clinic, please call our office at 502-570-3727 so that we can get you scheduled for the right type of appointment to suit your needs.
Bariatric Surgery
If you are interested in weight loss surgery and have not had a prior bariatric procedure, then your initial appointment with us will be what we call an intake appointment here at the Kentucky Bariatric Institute. This appointment typically lasts about 4 hours and will include the following:
- Group Education Class
- History and Physical Assessment with one of our clinical providers. They will go over your medical history, do a simple physical, and give you a checklist of any testing or clearances that they will need you to do before your surgery.
- Nutrition Assessment with one of our dieticians
- Insurance Overview Our insurance coordinators will go over your insurance coverage and let you know of any requirements your insurance has in order for us to obtain authorization for your procedure.
- Lab testing You have the option to come fasting if you wish to have our requested labs drawn while you are with us. We will print a lab order to take wherever is convenient if you choose not to.
The process leading up to bariatric surgery varies depending on each person’s medical history and insurance requirements. You will meet our team and learn what testing and clearances are required as you begin your journey with us towards weight loss surgery.
We currently have intake days in Georgetown every week at our KBI clinic on Tuesdays with an arrival time of 11:30AM EST and Thursdays with an arrival time of 8:00AM EST. We have intake appointments at our Winchester satellite location every week on Wednesdays at 9AM EST. We allow a guest to accompany you if they are at least 18 years of age. Plan on being here around 4 hours.
Our insurance team will verify if your policy has benefits for weight loss surgery prior to your appointment. We will screen your health history to make sure you are an appropriate surgical weight loss candidate, and our Insurance Team will make sure you meet the criteria set forth by your insurance policy. Most insurance plans require that your BMI be 35 or higher. However, if your BMI is between 30 – 35, we can sometimes get you approved if you have a life-threatening medical condition, such as high blood pressure, diabetes or sleep apnea. At your first appointment you will receive a personalized benefits form that will estimate, to the best of our abilities, your total out-of-pocket expenses.
