iPediatricians are doctors who specialize in healthcare for children and children’s diseases. They serve as the primary care provider for children and work to coordinate any specialty care the child may need.
New mothers are encouraged to select a pediatrician before they deliver their baby, so the pediatrician can provide care for the newborn while in the hospital nursery. Pediatricians will then continue to see that child for multiple routine well visits over the first two years of life. These visits are used to administer routine vaccines, document adequate growth, and ensure developmental milestones are met. Once a child reaches two years old, he or she will continue to need annual check-ups as well as be seen for any illness.
Georgetown Community Hospital has partnered with the Kentucky Children’s Hospital to provide the Georgetown nurses with additional training on treating children.
