Georgetown Community Hospital, a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery, Introduces Kentucky’s First Da Vinci 5 Surgical Robot
July 22, 2024
Georgetown, KY (July 22, 2024) – Georgetown Community Hospital (GCH) proudly acquires the latest advancement in surgical technology with Intuitive’s new da Vinci 5 surgical robot. GCH is marking a significant milestone as the first hospital in Kentucky to integrate this state-of-the-art technology into its surgical services. The system is arriving July 22, 2024, after a nearly $3 million capital investment from Lifepoint Health.
The da Vinci 5 surgical robot represents the latest advancements in robotic-assisted surgery, offering unprecedented precision, flexibility, and control for a wide range of minimally invasive procedures. This cutting-edge technology will enhance the hospital's ability to provide top-quality care to its patients, particularly in complex surgical specialties.
This new system compliments Georgetown Community Hospital’s established robotic surgical services program. From bariatric and general surgeries to urologic procedures, the da Vinci 5 addition will allow additional surgeons to expand their offerings and availability for patients.
Dr. Eric Smith, a renowned bariatric surgeon, Master Surgeon in Robotics and Center of Excellence Robotic Surgeon, expressed his enthusiasm for the new technology by stating “the new DV5 surgical robot is a game-changer for our entire surgical team. Not only does it provide enhanced visualization, superior dexterity, and precision over traditional minimally invasive surgery, but this new cutting-edge technology will offer unparalleled data collection that will continue to allow our surgeons to offer exceptional outcomes. It will also offer force feedback to the surgeon that has never been available on current robotic surgery technology.” Dr. Smith also sits on the surgeon advisory board for Intuitive and was involved in evaluating the development of the technology prior to the global release of the equipment.
Georgetown Community Hospital first introduced robotic-assisted surgery in 2015. Since then, the facility has performed over 6,100 robotic surgeries on the da Vinci platform. Cliff Wilson, chief executive officer of Georgetown Community Hospital and market president for Lifepoint Central Kentucky says, “we are thrilled to be the first hospital in Kentucky to offer the da Vinci 5 surgical robot. Our commitment to providing the best possible care is at the forefront of this investment.”
The first surgical case performed on da Vinci 5 robot is slated later this month. For more information about the da Vinci 5 surgical robot, please visit here.
