Georgetown Community Hospital and Central Kentucky Cancer Care Announce Expansion and Renovation of Cancer Center
November 20, 2024
GEORGETOWN, KY. [November 20, 2024] — Georgetown Community Hospital and Central Kentucky Cancer Care are excited to announce the expansion and renovation of their cancer center to better serve the oncology and hematology needs of the Georgetown community. The upgraded center, located on the second floor of Georgetown Community Hospital's Medical Office Building, will bring together the infusion center and oncology clinic in one streamlined space, enhancing convenience and care continuity for patients.
The expansion increases the infusion center’s square footage by 57% and boosts capacity by 40% with additional infusion chairs, creating a more accommodating and comfortable environment for patients undergoing treatment. This investment not only supports the hospital’s current growth in oncology services but also allows for an additional medical oncologist to join the team, further meeting the growing demand for cancer and hematology services in Georgetown and surrounding areas.
With funding from Lifepoint Health totaling over $1.9 million, this project exemplifies a significant commitment to providing accessible, cancer care to patients close to home in central Kentucky.
"The expansion and renovation allow us to enhance our capacity and ensure that patients in Georgetown receive the compassionate, high-quality cancer care they deserve, right here in their hometown,” said Cliff Wilson, chief executive officer of Georgetown Community Hospital and Market President for Lifepoint Central Kentucky. “As our community continues to grow, we’re dedicated to meeting its healthcare needs with excellence.”
The collaboration with the UK Markey Cancer Center Network plays a vital role in program’s success, allowing GCH to offer patients access to advanced treatments, including clinical trials and specialized surgeries at UK HealthCare. Through this partnership, patients can undergo complex procedures and participate in innovative research, then return to Georgetown for essential treatments like chemotherapy, radiation therapy, imaging scans and other follow-ups.
Also, the space will feature dedicated offices for the program’s support staff, including oncology social workers, financial counselors, and nurse navigators. This thoughtfully designed space ensures that patients and their families have convenient, private access to the full range of supportive services they need. GCH’s oncology social worker provides emotional support and resources, financial counselors assist with understanding and managing treatment costs, and nurse navigators guide patients through each step of their care journey. By housing these services together in one location, Central Kentucky Cancer Care can offer patients a seamless, compassionate support system that enhances their overall care experience.
The expanded cancer center is expected to open in April 2025. To learn more about Georgetown Community Hospital’s Central Kentucky Cancer Care, please visit GeorgetownCommunityHospital.com/CancerCare or call 502.868.5603
